Unfortunately, our planned holiday trip is cancelled, Stoom Stichting Nederland is also in lock down because of Omikron!
For children who love steam trains, Stoom Stichting Nederland is the best weekend or holiday outing! We have tiny mini-monsters who love trains so much that we've been visiting the foundation every school holiday for years. How much fun is that?
Stoom Stichting Nederland is actually a Museum, with a large indoor and outdoor space. Inside the barn the old steam trains are seriously being worked on by volunteers and you are standing up close to watch!
Outside you can also see the old steam trains (which are actually still running!) up close and there is even a train turntable. Even the old train station is still there! If you come to the museum on a day when there are no rides - let's say a 'normal' day at the depot - you can always walk up the stairs and ride the miniature trains. There is also a small souvenir shop where you can buy a nice reminder of your day out.
The Museum Stoomdepot organizes annually Steam Days, Christmas Rides and Treasure Hunts with the Youth Holiday Passport. It gives big and small steam and/or train enthusiasts inside and outside Rotterdam a lot of fun. With the events, but certainly also with the beautiful steam trains that belong in the permanent collection.
