This Sinterklaas surprise is made for someone who likes roll playing games but a Harry Potter fan will be pleasantly surprised by it too!
But do mind! This wizard can easily be ready before december 5th. It is not as much work as it may seem but the surpise takes some time because the clay has to dry really well. That's why we work on it for two days.
Day l
Knead Das clay soft then roll it at first into a ball.
Then roll the underside, into an egg shape.
Model hollow cheeks then pull out a long thin nose and chin.
Give the head a face then prick it onto a skewer to dry.
Roll 2 cylinders of clay, the wizard's under arms.
Flatten the cylinders on one end, to make the hands.
Cut out the fingers, using a sharp knife
Bend the fingers around the branch, so it will fit later on.
Make the second hand, bend around the marble, stick them on a skewer.
For Das to dry well takes at least 24 hours, put the jar aside overnight.
Bend a wire circle, twist the circle closed using pliers.
Attach four pieces of wire to the circle on 4 places.
Twist the four top ends together but let the top stick out a bit, so you can attach the head to it later on.
Twist a piece of wire horizontally around the figure, the arms. Allow them to stick out.
This is how the frame should look now, tomorrow we attach the head and arms.
Wrap wool around your hand, slide it off as a ring then tie a knot through the ring.
Cut through the opposite side for the wizard's hair. Make a beard the same way.
Stick a piece of felt on top of the frame then repeat this.
Cover the frame all around with the two pieces of felt.
Cut out sleeves and a hood, all three in the same way.
Now all the (loose) parts are ready. The wizard is almost finished!
Tomorrow we assemble the wizard with glue, then your surprise will be totally ready.
Tomorrow, on Day ll
Paint the head, arms and hands, allow the paint to dry. Stick head and arms with a drop of glue onto the wire ends.
Glue the sleeves and cape closed. Stick hairs and beard onto the head and attach the hood to it. Finally glue the branch and marble in the hands of the wizard.
Surely this wizard can look forward to a long life!
We wish you a magical Pakjesavond with lots of surprises!
