Today we are making an American childhood favorite that is also loved by many adults: we are making Tater Tots. Half of the name of this dish is a corruption of potatoes (potatoes) by toddlers and a corruption of the word toddlers (toddlers) by adults. This children's delicacy is eaten with vegetables as a meal, but in the US you can also order Tater Tots ready-made in fast food restaurants, as a snack.
Our Tip! We do advise you (ourselves too, for next time! ;)) to use an electric deep fryer. Because keeping the temperature of the oil even in a pan on the stove is a Herculean task!
How to make your own Tater Tots
Peel and cut the potatoes.
Wash them in cold water.
Put them nearly under water in the pan.
Bring the potatoes to the boil.
Let the potatoes cool for a while.
Grate them finely on a block grater.
Let the grated potatoes drain in cheese cloth.
Place the potato in a bowl and season with salt and pepper.
Add garlic & onion powder, oregano and the flour.
Mix it all by hand until well combined.
Roll a manageable portion at a time into a thin cylinder.
Cut the cylinders into small, even Tots.
Put the Tater Tots in the freezer for min. 2 hours.
Preheat the oil to about 180°C
Also very tasty with just a dipping sauce, as a snack. Tomorrow the recipe for chicken skewers will be online!
