Generous pinch of cinnamon

As children, we were sometimes allowed to buy an apple pie at McDonald's. Our mother would immediately warn us: don't take a bite yet, HOT! And they were, boiling hot on the inside! Today we are baking these Appel Pastries ourselves, because Thanksgiving is being celebrated in the USA today. Apple pie is a big favorite then, right after Pumpkin Pie. One difference: we also put raisins in, delicious!

Here is how to make apple pie

Peel the apples, remove the core, and cut them into small pieces.

Add the apple pieces to a large pan with a small layer of water.

Bring the apples to a boil and let simmer gently for 10 minutes.

Drain the apple pieces and put them in a large bowl.

Stir the raisins into the apple pieces.

Add the sugar and cinnamon to the bowl..

Stir it into the apple pieces.

Preheat the oven to 200°C and place baking paper on the baking sheet

Take the puff pastry out of the freezer 10 minutes in advance (We did this to early and then the dough looses it's shape, so do mind the time! ;))

Spread out the puff pastry.

Spoon 2 tablespoons apple mixture on top.

Close the pastries well using a fork.

Brush the pastries with beaten egg.

Place the pies on the baking paper on the tray.

Slide them into the middle of the oven.

Bake the pies for +/- 15 minutes, until golden.

Let the apple pies cool on the tray for a little while...

...and serve them nice and warm with a lovely cup of tea.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!
