We read a beautiful November picture book to the little monsters, it's called Thanksgiving in the woods. The book is written by the American writer Phyllis Alsdurf and the pretty, warm illustrations are by Jenny Løvlie. It's a true story that continues to this day! 20 years ago, an American family - living on a large farm in the woods - started inviting family and friends to celebrate Thanksgiving together.
Our loyal readers know already that Thanksgiving is an American holiday that you celebrate with family and friends. The party gives you the opportunity to express your gratitude. Thankful that you are alive, that you have lovely parents, a great family and friends and good and enough food. Not everyone in the world has that.
What started with a group of family members, some friends and neighbors has grown into a true happening in 20 years. About 200 people now come to celebrate and everyone brings dome delicious food and/or drinks. It starts early in the morning, then everything is prepared in the forest. Long tables and benches are set up. Lights are hung in the trees and a large campfire is built.
In the evening everyone walks through the dark forest to the festive place. What a wonderful adventure for children! They eat and laugh together, there is music and singing, young and old have a lot of fun. Read all about it in this beautiful book!
3 bright shining stars for Thanksgiving in the Woods, from the little listeners and their readers!
