Today we read another beautiful picture book about animal migration. The book is written by Clare Helen Welsh and the text fits the subject very well. We - the readers - only find the repetition of the title on every other page too much. The monsters accept it without complaining :))
The beautiful illustrations are by Norwegian illustrator Jenny Løvlie. She graduated in Illustration & Animation from Kingston University in London, with a BA (Hons) in 2014. Since then she still lives in London and has illustrated many picture books.
It is lovely when you are in the air with the Tern, but then the scenery changes and the weather too. If you look down you see other animals migrating. In the fall, towards winter, they all seek warmth before it gets too cold to survive where they are. In the spring, they all migrate the other way again, back 'home'.
We read the book with great pleasure (aloud) and looked at the beautiful large illustrations together with the monsters. You see the tough battle that a small Tern has to fight to arrive at its destination. You can see the bird is so tired, looking for a safe place to rest before moving on again. The story is a good lesson in perseverance. A besautiful book!
