The hero from the Japanese (Anime) cartoon Totoro is particularly popular on the Internet. You can buy everything with his image on it. There are also many homemade Totoro's. Like we do today. We make a small Totoro to hang on your bag. You can download our pattern.
How to make Totoro
Pin the pattern of body and ears on grey felt and cut it out.
Pin the ears double and stitch them all around.
Place front body on top of back and put in a pin at the side.
Fold the body open and pin the ears in, like in the picture.
Pin the body together all around but leave the bottom open.
Tie on and stitch all around, fastening the ears in the process.
Tie firmly off and turnthe body inside out. The ears will stand up neatly now.
Fill the body with fiberfill.
Thread a piece of yarn through the bottom.
Pull the yarn really tight.
Tie off with tree stitches over each other.
Cut eyes and nose from black and white felt.
Cut the belly out of off white and some grey stripes.
Attach the yarn on the belly with off white yarn.
Stitch the belly on the body.
Stitch all around and tie off.
Glue eyes, nose and stripes on.
Sew a little black loop on the head.
Bend the ring on the keychain open, slide the loop on en press it closed again.
Whether it's a fancy handbag or your schoolbag...
Totoro looks cool on any bag!
