Shopping list, makes 10 cakes
a vanilla cake, homemade or ready made
60g butter
125g icing sugar
2 tablespoons water
45g strawberry jam
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
75g chocolate
icing fondant, in various colours

Make these funny Japanese inspired cakes from a store bought cake or bake one yourself. The exact amount of ingredients depends on the number of children for which you make the treat. So do the math or make the cakes somewhat smaller, these are 5 cm in diameter.

How to make the cakes

Weigh the butter and icing sugar.

Mix the butter creamy.

Add the sugar in little bits.

Plus two tablespoons water.

Mix butter, sugar and water very well together or you taste the powdered sugar in the butter cream. Divide the buttercream over three bowls and stir the vanilla flavour into the first cup.

Taste when the butter cream is mixed smooth!

Sift strawberry jam into bowl 2.

Stir the firmly jam into the butter cream.

How to make chocolate butter cream

Melt the chocolate au bain marie.

Stir the chocolate until smooth.

Add 2 tbspoons chocolate to the cream.

Stir the cream in bowl 3 smooth.

Remove the brown edges from the cake.

Slice the cake then cut out circles.

Cut the circles in half, spread on cream.

Press the halves together.

Roll out fondant, cut out circles.

Roll the circle thinly.

Cover the cakes in cream.

Spread the rolled out fondant circles on the cakes.

Tuck the fondant in, cut the excess off then smoothen it.
 

Make cute faces on the cakes using left over chocolate.
