Looking for Roe Deer - A wonderful guided walk
Saturday, November 8th OERSSS Fat Bird Days
Help birds get through the winter: make fat bird snacks
If you want to go to Tiengemeten Nature Reserve, you have to park your car and first take the ferry. The monsters love it, a wonderful ferry ride, cool! Arriving on the island, we immediately see a big welcome sign from Natuurmonumenten (Dutch Society for Nature Conservation), featuring a beautiful Scottish Highland Cow.
The kids are already excited, and so are we; it's wonderful outside here, in the fall! A quick note: members of Natuurmonumenten and Oerrr! receive a discount on the entrance fee, which shouldn't be a deterrent anyway, to such a wonderful day outdoors.
When we get off the ferry, we'll first take a look around. We were given a great scavenger hunt map at the Visitor Center. The little monsters have all sorts of things with them: binoculars, magnifying glasses, and a camera. :)) They came prepared!
If you come here and don't have everything you need with you, the staff are so very friendly and prepared for anything! You can borrow anything they have for free, whether it's old clothes to play in, a net, or a shovel and bucket—it doesn't matter.
We first went to the OERRR grounds, looking for birds, other animals and nature's treasures! It worked out really well, but not everyone wanted to pose for a photo. We spotted the great spotted woodpecker pretty quickly, but it saw us too and wasn't keen on having its picture taken.
A little later, we spotted a large pheasant, but before we could get our camera ready, it was gone again. It looks like the animals here don't want to become famous ;)) We photographed the wild horses from a distance; they might not have wings but imagine them galloping away too! ;)))
We walk back to restaurant De Drie Gezusters, a cozy, old-fashioned place to enjoy delicious coffee and a treat. We're sitting inside, nice and warm because it's chilly outside, even though there's a sign here showing where the ice cream is.
We're skipping the big mud slide today; we'll save that for the summer. The Agricultural Museum they have here will have to wait until next time we visit. But making rafts, building huts, and rope climbing to and fro over the water—that's so much fun!
The little monsters would also love to participate in the awesome bird-feeding activity on Saturday, and also stoke a fire :)) They think that sounds like a lot of fun too. Besides it's so much fun to play here, with such a lot of space to do it in and to experience it all.

But now it's time to go home, hurry up, the ferry leaves right on time! We already know we will be back here often. It's so beautiful here in the fall, but we'd also love to experience the other seasons, which we are sure will be fantastic too.
But here is the ferry and we're off. It was a wonderful day!
