Since we are all occupied with the weather we read Look at the weather! to the kids, the latest book by Britta Teckentrup. She is well known to us from Don't wake up Tiger and many other beautiful picture books for young children.
This book is beautiful, like all her books but it differs. It is a picture book but then again not. It is not written for toddlers and preschoolers, but for children aged 8 to 10 years old.
The thick book is beautifully designed, with a linen back. The prints are stunning and the text about the weather is good, but it does not catch the mini monsters. They pictures are a bit boring, the information too much and too serious, they say.
The grown up readers like the prints, they are beautiful and the text is clear and well documented. But we understand that the monsters get bored after a while. The text ripples on, without humour or a little factual joke here and there. That's sorely missed by them.
