It's so cold today, it's going to be a very cold weekend says the weather report, with a wind chill of -1.9! We know something to make it better, tonight we eat hutspot, a tasty stew with winter carrots, onions and a well with savoury gravy. You do need a stamper to make this dish properly. We also make pulled beef, streaky bacon or meat balls. Let's vote on which ;))
How to make an old-fashioned hutspot
Peel the carrots.
Cut them into small strips.
Cut the onions into halve rings.
Peel the potatoes.
Wash and cut them into equal pieces.
Put the potatoes in a large pan.
Place the carrots on top.
Put the onions on top of the carrots.
Put it almost under water.
Bring the water to the boil.
Cook it all for 20 minutes
Put everything back in the pan.
Use a stamper to stamp and mix it all.
Fold in the butter.
Add a splash of milk and season with with salt and pepper.
Make a well in the hutspot on your plate, to hold the gravy ;))
You probably already know! Tonight the choice fell on the bacon slices :))
