For us there's nothing better than watching a beautiful movie on the couch with the whole family. With Easter weekend and other holidays approaching, we'd like to give you a great film tip. The film is available on DVD, but you can rent it—you certainly won't regret it. It's a brilliant film, and it's called Whale Rider. Actress Keisha Castle-Hughes (Pai) has been nominated for an Oscar in the 'Actress in A Leading Role' category for her role in Whale Rider, fingers crossed that she wins!
The story is remarkable, funny and moving. When the girl Pai is born, her mother dies along with her twin brother. Fortunately, she has grandparents who are willing to care for her. Her grandfather is the leader of the Maori tribe in New Zealand. Things are often difficult with Grandpa and Pai; he would rather have a grandson than a granddaughter. He believes a girl cannot succeed him as tribal leader. A beautiful film, officially for all ages, but we think from 10-12 years and up.
3+ radiant stars for Whale Rider, from all the viewers, young and older!
