Today we bake dreidel biscuits, because it is Hanukkah. We want to bake our beloved vanilla cookies but in the shape of a Jewish dreidel. We cannot find a dreidel cookie cutter in the Netherlands, on the internet. But cutting with a knife doesn't get as nice and tight. So we order a make-your-own cookie cutter set at Koek-it, which works very well. Download the PDF to make the dough, let it rest in the fridge for a little while and you're good to go!
How to make Dreidel Biscuits
.Get the dough from the fridge.
Knead the dough briefly.
Roll out the dough to 0.5cm.
Cut out the biscuits.
Put 15 - 30 minutes in the fridge.
Preheat the oven to 175°C
Slide the biscuits in the middle.
Bake the biscuits in 10 - 12 mins golden.
Allow to cool on a wire rack.
While the biscuits cool completely you make the decoration, sprinkle icing sugar on your workspace
Knead then roll out the icing thinly.
Cut out fondant icing dreidels.
We opt for 3 traditional colours.
Stick the fondant dreidels on the biscuits with drops of water and search the internet for a picture of the symbols on the dreidel
Copy - using edible goldpaint - the symbols as beautiful as you can.
Serve optional golden coins with the dreidel biscuits.
Happy Hanukkah!
