Today is the start of Chanukah and we read a beautiful book to our young monsters about what the Chanukah celebration exactly is. What it means to Jewish people and where the celebration comes from. There are many lovely photos and illustrations in the book, so that you can experience the Chanukah celebration a little, together with the children in the book.
The Chanukah celebration comes from a distant past, you can read the story of how this festival originated (briefly) in this book. Chanukah is, just like Christmas, Diwali and Eid al-Fitr, a festival of light. The light shines and drives away the darkness, good wins over evil. That is what is being celebrated.
The tekst is clear, understandable and informative, we learn a lot about the history of this very old celebration. There is a glossary with the meaning and phonetic pronunciation of unknown words in the back of the book.
We also read about the familie dinner with special delicious food, the game Jewish children then play, the gifts they receive and the meaning of it al. A beautiful celebration!
