It's November and starts getting cold!
In November, you’ll notice winter setting in. It’s getting colder outside, and it gets dark early. On some days, it’s already getting dim by the time you leave school, but fortunately, the candles are already lit at home.
Calender November 2026
November 8 Diwali, the festival of lights, begins. The festival lasts five days and is celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and some Buddhists. This beautiful celebration marks the victory of light over darkness and of good over evil.
November 11 (or November 10 in some countries) St. Martin's Day is celebrated in Europe: specifically in the Netherlands, Belgium, Northern France, Germany, Denmark, Southern Sweden, Portugal, Hungary, Slovakia, and Latvia. In the Netherlands this very old, traditional festival is more cultural than religious and is primarily a celebration for children. Children go from house to house carrying homemade lanterns and singing songs.
On November 14th Sinterklaas arrives in the Netherlands and this year the national arrival ceremony is taking place in Grave. Grave is a beautiful, very old fortified town in North Brabant. If Grave is too far away for you, don't worry—the event is also broadcast on television. Moreover, good old Sinterklaas visits various other places across the Netherlands as well. Can't manage to see him in person? Still no need to worry, because the annual *Sinterklaasjournaal* has already started, and every day we’ll be glued to the screen too!
November 26th marks a beautiful celebration in the United States—our loyal readers already know this. That is when Thanksgiving Day is celebrated there (and by Americans in NL, too). It is a wonderful holiday for being grateful and giving thanks for the harvest and all the good things in your life. Of course, you aren't just grateful one day a year, but every day. However, this is the special day of gratitude celebrated by all Americans at the same time. There’s delicious food—usually involving turkey and pumpkin pie—followed by exciting American football games on TV, and everyone settles back, to relax :)))
On November 27, 28, and 29, we’ll be getting a head start on our Hanukkah recipes. Since Hanukkah falls on December 4th this year and Sinterklaas is on the 5th, we’d otherwise be pressed for time with all the festivities! We’re certainly going to be busy...
In any case, you’ll find plenty to do on snazzie this fun November month. Whether you enjoy crafting, reading great books, or cooking and baking, there’s always something for you to join in. So come join the fun—the little monsters are excited to show you what we’ve been up to.
Wishing you a wonderful November!
