October starts to feel festive already

October is always a busy month, but what a fun-filled month it’s shaping up to be!

First up, the agenda!
October 4th is Animal Day. This year, we’re putting horses in the spotlight because so many children love them. (We’ll let you in on a secret: we’re making healthy cupcakes for the horses!)

October 17th up to and including the 25th It's autumn break for the central region of the Netherlands. The little monsters are already looking forward to go hunting for chestnuts and other autumn treasures. :))

On October 25th—also marking the end of the autumn break—the clocks go back one hour at 3:00 AM on Sunday night. That’s when winter time begins, meaning it gets dark outside early (or even earlier)!

October 31st It's Halloween. We read about it, we craft and we bake!

September 30th The Dutch Children's Book Week 2026 kicked off and it runs until up to and including October 11th. This year's theme is of the Children's Book Week is "Spot On!"

The free Children's Book Week gift for 2026 is titled *Terug naar de Schoenenboom* (Back to the Shoe Tree). It was written by Milouska Meulens and illustrated by Hedy Tjin. You get the book for free when you purchase a book costing at least €13.50 during Dutch Children's Book Week.

The Children's Book Week picture book is titled *Herrie in de tent* (Commotion in the Tent).
It was written and illustrated by Harmen van Straaten. This fun picture book costs just €7.99 for the duration of Children's Book Week.

So, what else are we doing in October? (Duh!) Firstly reading, of course—it’s Children's Book Week after all! We’ll be reading about and also crafting gnome stuff at snazzie this month. We’ll also be cooking, baking, and crafting as always—and celebrating the Autumn holiday, of course! Like we said: October is a wonderfully busy month!

We wish you a lovely autumn break and lots of fun with all the festive days ahead!
