He must have had a sharp observational ability for children (and pets!), he knew how to characterize them so well that every parent could recognize their children in them and had to laugh about it.
Our little monsters think Snoopy is super fun when he flies around on his dog house like the Red Baron. Even though they don't know that the Red Baron was a German fighter pilot in the First World War. When Snoopy does his funny dances or when Lucy pulls the ball away when Charlie wants to kick it, it's still funny.
